What to Expect on a Visit
The First Visit
Patients visiting our office for the first time receive a definitive consultation. During this visit, we will ask you questions about your eyes, your general health and the medications that you take. Your eyes will be dilated and thoroughly examined. At that time, your doctor may determine that other special testing is required. This may include fluorescein angiography, fundus photography, ultrasound, optical coherence tomography (OCT) etc. You are encouraged to ask questions to ensure that you understand completely the explanations and recommendations which are given to you. Please allow a minimum of two hours for this initial consultation. Since your eyes will be dilated, you may want to have a companion drive you home. Sunglasses will be provided when you leave.
Emergencies
Please call our office immediately if you develop new symptoms of concern in your vision. If it is determined that you have an urgent condition, we will arrange to see you on an emergency basis. If you call after regular office hours or on weekends, our exchange will contact the retinal specialist on call. As always, any symptom which may indicate a risk to your vision or to your life, should be reported immediately to your own general physician, the 911 emergency service or any emergency room.
Insurance
Retinal Diagnostic Center will bill both your primary and secondary insurances. However, we must remind you that the ultimate responsibility for payment of all charges belongs to the patient. You will receive a statement once a month, which will reflect both insurance and personal payments. Our Bookkeeping Department will be glad to answer any questions or concerns you may have regarding your bill. Any required payments such as copays, deductibles, etc. will be collected at the time of service and we do ask that you pay any monthly statement that you receive promptly. For your convenience, we will accept your personal check, Visa or Master Card. If you do not have medical insurance, payment will be collected at the time of service. Please be assured that we attempt to hold charges to the reasonable minimum.
